The English major consists of 42 credits that include College English I and II, an Introduction to Literary Studies and six survey courses, four of which also fulfill University core requirements. In addition, students take 12 credits of advanced electives in delineated areas and the senior English Seminar, a 3-credit course that completes their major program. English department advisers are always available to help students with registration and academic, personal, or career decisions throughout their college years.

The English minor enhances reading and writing skills, adding greater literacy and effectiveness to any major students take in college or career path they chose after graduation. The minor consists of 18 credits distributed among surveys, writing courses, and advanced electives.

The Department of English also offers an 18-credit Writing minor which students can tailor to their own interests, emphasizing creative writing, expository writing, business and technical writing, or a combination of styles.

The Department of English features a 30-credit Master of Arts program in English as well as an exciting Dual Degree B.A./M.A. option that enables qualified English majors to achieve a Master’s degree in one year beyond their B.A. For more information about these programs, click on the links provided.
