Who can participate?
Project Acceleration courses are open to high school
students (juniors & seniors; sophomores are accepted
upon approval) in
good academic standing who are capable of performing
Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors coursework. Once
registered, students must earn a grade of C (2.0
grade point average) or
better in their Project Acceleration courses in
order to receive Seton Hall University credit and to
continue in the program. A grade of "D" or "F" will
result in a student's termination from the program
without being awarded credits.
How many credits can I earn?
Students can earn up to 22 credits over the course
of their high school career, but can take no more
than two (2) courses per semester. Courses in
Mathematics, the Physical and Biological Sciences
and Computer Science receive four (4) credits. All other
courses receive three (3) credits.
What courses can I take?
The courses available to students depend on the
offerings at their specific school. Please consult
the
Current Course Listing . Courses have been
offered in Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology,
Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Political
Science, Sociology, History, Communication, Criminal
Justice, English,
French, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek,
Music, Art and Education.
How do I earn college credits?
Academic credits earned by Project Acceleration
students are held in escrow by Seton Hall University
until high school diplomas are granted. After
graduation, students should request that a
transcript be sent to the college or university of
their choice. Different schools have different
policies for accepting transfer credit, but most
require at minimum a grade of C. Many require a
higher grade than C. Please consult our
Credit Acceptance Roster for a list of schools
and their specific requirements for accepting
Project Acceleration credit. Although we make every
effort to maintain the accuracy of our list, it is
the students' responsibility to contact the
admissions office of a particular university or
college to verify that Project Acceleration credits
will be accepted.
According to 1986 New Jersey Assembly Act No. 138,
"A public institution of higher education shall
accept pursuant to standards established by the
chancellor, the course credit of a student who
successfully participates in the program." Please
note that the college or university has the right to
determine how Project Acceleration course credits
will be transferred to a student's degree program.
Options include counting the credits toward degree
requirements or as general electives. This Act,
however, does not require an institution to accept
Project Acceleration course credits for the
substitution of courses required for a specific
degree program. For example, a Project Acceleration
Mathematics course may or may not be accepted by an
institution as fulfilling their requirements in
Mathematics, depending on their transfer policies.
How do I request a transcript?
Students should ask their teacher or guidance
counselor for a Seton Hall Transcript Request Form.
The Project Acceleration office can also mail the
form to students if necessary. Fill out the form
completely - make sure to give social security
number and date of birth. In the area under "Special
Program," write "Project Acceleration" and give
dates of participation.
Transcript Request Forms are also available in PDF
format.

South Orange, NJ 07079
The first five (5) transcripts are free of charge. After
that, the charge is $3 per request.
Please call the Transcript Office at 973.275.2570 to
check on the status of you r request
How much does it cost?
Tuition for Project Acceleration courses is $60 per
credit hour. (Regular Seton Hall tuition is $797 per
credit hour.) Thus, a three credit course is $180; a
four credit course is $240. Checks should be made
payable to Seton Hall University. Include the
student's name and Social Security number on the
tuition check and staple the check to the green
bursar's copy of the registration form. Students
should return both the check and the registration
form to the high school Project Acceleration
teacher.
How do I register?
Registration takes place in Project Acceleration
high school courses at the beginning of each
semester, typically October (Fall semester) and
February (Spring Semester). Please
consult
Deadlines and Events for registration deadlines.
Please note that some courses are sequential ,
requiring registration and payment in both fall and
spring semesters if students wish to receive credit
for both semesters of the course. Other courses,
taught for the full year (year-long courses) but
only counting as one college course, require only
one registration and payment in the fall. Students
should consult their instructors for further
information about a
course's registration requirements.
Can I withdraw from the course?
Students may withdraw from the course and receive a refund of their tuition
during the registration period only if they notify both
their high school teacher and the coordinator of
Project Acceleration in writing by the Add/Drop withdrawal
deadline. Please consult
Deadlines and Events for the precise date.
What paperwork will I receive from Seton Hall?
Seton Hall will
send an unofficial transcript, upon request, to each
student participating in Project Acceleration. This
document will be useful when students attend summer
orientations at universities and begin to schedule
classes. However, students should request that an
official transcript be sent to their school of
choice in order to receive transfer credit. Before
the end of the school year, students can use their
copy of the registration form as proof of
registration. Transcript request forms are also
available in PDF format online at
http://admin.shu.edu/enrollmentservices
. Click on the "Forms Library" and print out the
form. On the line for "Degree" write "Project
Acceleration.
The transcript request form can also
be emailed to students by calling the Project
Acceleration office at 973.761.9224; 973.275.2432;
or by sending an email to
projectacceleration@shu.edu.
Can I use the University Libraries?
Yes! After registration is completed, the names of
all Project Acceleration teachers, students and
contact persons are sent to the library. This list
of names will be kept at the Circulation Desk.
When students go to the library, they will need to
give the librarian their name and high school and
show their high school photo ID or other form of
identification. Students may work at the library or
check out up to six books for a period of 28 days.
These books may not be renewed. Students may search
the library's holdings before coming to campus
through the online catalog, called "SetonCat," found
on the library's homepage at
http://library.shu.edu. The homepage will also
have information on hours of operation. Students
should get a guest parking pass from the security
guard when entering the University gates.
Students may also access various research databases
from the library's homepage. Some of these databases
are open to all users, while others require a
password. Project Acceleration teachers are provided
with a list of database passwords and can give them
to students as needed.
