CROATIA

| Title: | The Croatia Page |
| URL: | http://www.croatia.net/index.html |
|
Description
|
This site contains information about Croatian history, geographical information about the layout and terrain of the country, a cultural overview of Croatia including information about the Croatian language, music, sports, art and Croatian cuisine, and links to Croatian news sources. This site was created in order to provide information about Croatia to the “Croatian-American Community” and to those who wish to learn about Croatia, its history and the people who live there. The website is organized into eight main sources of interest which provide links to things such as history, tourism news, resources, etc. Though this site does not say specifically what the creator does, he is listed as Zeljko Skropanic, who I assume to be either a Croatian immigrant or someone born here of Croatian-born parents. This site does not seem to have any bias about Croatia; it seems to be more of a site for information for those looking to travel to the country. It does, however, seem to portray Croatia as a nation that has made many contributions, both scientifically and culturally, that have been overlooked by the rest of the world. |
| Title: | Croatian Information Center |

|
Description
|
This website contains current headlines in Croatian news. Its goal is to present information about the current political situation in Croatia to other nations in order to raise consciousness and it is also a place for journalists from Europe and America to find information about Croatia. The site is updated daily and is laid out like any other web-newspaper. The most current news is at the top of the website and on the side there are links to more articles published in the past week. The site was created by The Croatian Information Center, or as they refer to themselves, HIC in 1991. It is a non-profit organization that provides information mainly to other journalists about the current situation in Croatia. It appears to be a non-biased website where the information is purely factual. |
| Title: | CROATIA, an Overview of its History, Culture and Science |
| URL: | http://www.hr/darko/etf/etfss.html |
| Description | This website
contains historical and cultural information about Croatia, along with
information about Croatian scientists and artists. It also gives
histories of Croatian accomplishments in science and medicine and
histories of Croatian historical political figures. This site was
created as a means of spreading information about Croatian culture and
history. The author wants people visiting the site to come away with a
better understanding of Croatian culture and the history of Croatian
people. The main page of the site is organized like an outline with
links to different areas such as “Generalities
and basic facts about Croatia.”
A man named Darko Zubrinic created the site and it appears to have no
biases for or against Croatian culture. It appears to simply give facts
to promote understanding and knowledge of the Croatian culture. |
| Title: | Central Intelligence Agency. World Fact Book. |
| URL: | http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/ |
| Description | This
website presents facts about Croatian political structure, economy,
population statistics, geography, and a brief account of how the nation
of Croatia was formed. It was created in order to give factual
information about Croatia. It is organized much like an encyclopedia is
with information broken up into nine different categories. The
author/authors want to simply convey factual information about Croatia
presented in numerical data, presumably for research purposes. There is
no bias. |
