physical sciences.

(Russian Civilization)
Evolution of Russian pattern of civilization from
the 8th century to the present. Artistic, geographic,
historic,
literary
and social background of Russia.
Prerequisite: RUSS 1102 or permission of department. 3
credits.

RUSS 2115 (Intro to Russian
Lit. I) and RUSS 2116 (Intro to Russian Lit. II)
Major writers from the 18th to the 20th
centuries: Turgenev, Goncharov, Pushkin, Lermontov, Tolstoy,
Gogol,
Dostoevsky and others. Conducted in Russian.
Prerequisite: RUSS 2111-2112 or permission of
department. 3 credits each.
RUSS 2316
(Russian Culture Through Film)
Russian cinema as a window into Soviet
life. How Russian film entertained, inspired and indoctrinated the masses
from
the Socialist Revolution to Perestroika.
3 credits.
RUSS 2317 (Russian Drama)
Development of the Russian drama from its
beginning to the present. Reading analysis of representative
works.
Conducted in Russian.
Prerequisite: RUSS 1102 or permission of department. 3 credits.

(Modern Russian Literature I-II)
Representative Russian writers from Pushkin through the
modern period.
Conducted in Russian.
Prerequisite: RUSS 2111-2112 or permission of
