Welcome

How to get involved in Theatre-in-the-Round

There are many ways to get involved in theatre at Seton Hall University.

"Arms and the Man"  Fall 2008

The best way to get involved is to audition for the student productions. Audition notices generally go up around the campus about six weeks prior to the upcoming production. The best place to find information is on the theatre message board in the basement of Fahy Hall. No experience is necessary and if you don't get cast you are always welcome to work on the production behind the scenes.

The Theatre Council, an official student organization, is always looking for new members. The council plays a significant role in helping to develop theatre at SHU as well as producing student directed productions throughout the year.

There are a variety of performance oriented theatre courses offered by the Communication Dept. Courses in Acting, Directing, Children's Theatre, Vocal Techniques, and Introduction to the Theatre can serve to introduce or enhance a student's theatrical awareness. Theatre courses increase a student's communication skill, poise, creativity and understanding of culture and society. You don't have to want to be an actor to study acting.

Theatre courses also exist in Set Design, Lighting Design, Theater History, American Stage, Irish Stage and Dramatic Theory and Criticism.

There are also many theatre opportunities off campus in New Jersey and New York. Seton Hall students have gone on to work at The Celtic Theatre Company here at Seton Hall, The New Jersey Performing Arts Center, The Paper Mill Playhouse in Milburn, The Yates Musical Theatre for Children and Rainbow Theatricals as well as many others.

The Theatre-in-the-Round is located in the
Bishop Dougherty Student Center

Student productions are sponsored by the University Arts Council & the Department of Communication
